Lemon Bergamot has a wonderful taste and lemony aroma, but it is usually grown as an ornamental or for its cut flowers.Lemon Bergamot seeds are easily started and produce knee-high plants with masses of tiered pink and purple blossoms from August until frost. The lance shaped mid green leaves have a distinctive citrus or lemony scent when the leaves are rubbed or crushed.
Idoor: Sow thinly in a lightweight soil mix. Cover twice seeds thickness with soil. Press firmly and water. Keep evenly moist but not soggy. As seedlings appear, gradually expose them to light. When large enough to handle, transplant to pots. Harden by gradual exposure to outdoor conditions. After spring frosts transplant to garden 30-90cm (12-36in) apart.
