Oxlip (Primula elatior) is a species of flowering plant in the family Primulaceae, native to nutrient-poor and calcium-rich damp woods and meadows. It is a herbaceous or semi-evergreen perennial plant growing to 30 cm (12 in) tall by 25 cm (10 in) broad, with a rosette of leaves 5–15 cm long and 2–6 cm broad. It produces light yellow flowers in spring, in clusters of 10-30 together on a single stem 10–30 cm (4–12 in) tall, each flower 9–15 mm broad. Idoor: Sow thinly in a lightweight soil mix. Cover twice seeds thickness with soil. Press firmly and water. Keep evenly moist but not soggy. As seedlings appear, gradually expose them to light. When large enough to handle, transplant to pots. Harden by gradual exposure to outdoor conditions. After spring frosts transplant to garden 30-90cm (12-36in) apart. Outdoor:After spring frosts sow thinly to garden 30-90cm (12-36in) apart. Cover 3 times thier diameter with soil. Thin to 20-50cm (8-20in) apart.
