Monarda fistulosa, the wild bergamot or bee balm, is a wildflower in the mint family Lamiaceae. This plant, with showy summer-blooming pink to lavender flowers, is often used as a honey plant, medicinal plant, and garden ornamental. The species is quite variable, and several subspecies or varieties have been recognized within it. It is great for attracting bees, butterflies and birds to your garden.
Fill a pot with moist potting soil, up to 1/2″ from the top (12 mm). Scatter several Wild Bergamot seeds on the surface of the soil and press them in with your finger. The seed needs good contact with the soil, but also sunlight. Place the container in a location that gets morning sun and afternoon shade. After spring frosts, transplant seedlings to the garden.
